Weapons used in Gekiken (撃剣)
~ one mind, any weapon ~

We use special exclusive training weapons, known as RSW Flex Grade, in addition to the traditional wooden mock weapons which are available widely. RSW (Realistic Sparring Weapons), is a unique brand of padded weaponry, closely simulating real weapons, to make our training fights follow closely to the physics of real combat.

RSW Flex Grade is a special grade of the RSW weapons exclusive to this website only. The default grade you will see in the RSW website is Professional Grade.
RSW Flex Grade features:
- real weapon weight and balance
- real weapon dimensions and shape
- slight core flex, thus increasing shock absorption
- more padding, making it safer
- just rigid enough to accurately execute historical techniques.

Katana (刀)
The Japanese longsword, dual-handed and single-edge. Roughly a metre in length, and a kilogram in weight. One of the most adaptable and versatile weapons, and also the first weapon that Gekiken practitioners learn to use.
Wakizashi (脇差)
The Japanese short sword, single-handed and single-edge. Companion to the long sword, the Wakizashi is fast and effective. It can be wielded together with the Katana in two-swords style, Nito (二刀), if you have the strength and dexterity.
Tanto (短刀)
Dagger, for close-combat and for prying through the weaknesses and gaps in the Samurai armour.
Kama (鎌)
Sickle, originally meant for farming purposes, can be improvised into a fighting weapon.
Naginata, Nagamaki (薙刀, 長巻)
Japanese halberd, long range weapon with a curved and single-edge blade. As we are dealing with real weapon weight here, to wield the halberd effectively, one would need good basics, good posture and dexterity. As with all polearms, these weapons are ambidexterous.
