Training 稽古

Location and Timing
~ Sundays 11am, Toa Payoh Town Park

Practitioners will start their training with a wooden long-sword and comfortable workout attire. As you proceed further on, you may purchase your own traditional Japanese training uniform, Keiko-Gi (稽古着) and Hakama (袴).
Training revolves around 3 main areas:
1) 精神 Seishin = Spirit
2) 技 Waza = Proper techniques
3) 撃剣 Gekiken = live sparring

Gekiken - Sparring
Free-response and uncooperative sparring is a tool for us to test out actual fighting techniques in a stress situation to learn and have a better idea what a real fight will be like.
The sparring weapons that we use, from RSW (Realistic Sparring Weapons), have real weapon weight, balance and dimensions, which will allow our sparring to follow closely to the physics of a real fight.

That being said, our goal is not to create a realistic sparring environment. That will only be a stepping stone to our true goals. The true goals of Gekiken is first and foremost, character development, and only then, followed by effective weaponry training.
