Gloves
In contact weaponry combat, hands are often the most sought-after targets, as they are often the closest targets available, and disables the fighter's fighting ability. The forearm can be gradually conditioned to receive blows. Fingers are what we want to protect.
Our recommendation is the Mylec Street Hockey Gloves. It is affordable, protective just enough, compact (if gloves are too fat, you might have difficulty gripping certain weapons) and offers full-finger movement flexibility.

Helmets
Our recommended helmet is the Itech Profile 1200.
It provides sufficient padding, full-face and back-head protection, along with a throat piece. However it can cost around SGD$200, shipping included, from US.
Those on a budget may choose Mission M1505, without throat piece, as these are usually around SGD$90, shipping included.
Other options includes Sports Fencing helmet. The lower-end ones usually cost around or less than SGD$100. Fencing helmets provides full-face and throat protection. However, the back of your head is exposed, and additional padding will need to be improvised on the top of the head, and the side to provide protection for the vulnerable ears.
